“…Bria Skonberg looks like a Scandinavian angel…plays trumpet like a red hot devil, and sings like a dream…”
-Will Friedwald, The Wall Street Journal
It’s a rare talent that can straddle—and dare request membership in—the trumpet artist continuum emanating from Louis Armstrong…However, with her bravura performance on So is the Day, Bria Skonberg confirms that she is not only indeed a triple threat musician—player, vocalist and composer—but also that that esteemed lineage, would heartily approve her membership… She exhibits stylistic shades of Peggy Lee, Dinah Washington, and Diana Krall. She has a beautiful voice—both soul sultry and innocent sweet—Her vocal and horn chops intertwine seamlessly…. She has it all…”. -Nicholas F. Mondello, All About Jazz
Originally from Western Canada, Bria Skonberg is a trumpeter, vocalist, songwriter and bandleader taking New York by storm with her “red-hot” trumpet playing and “soul sultry and innocent sweet” voice. Back by popular demand, she will be featuring music from her chart-topping hit record (Currently #7 on the Jazz Charts) So Is The Day on Random Act Records.
Released in April 2012 So Is The Day features nine freshly minted originals and three equally intriguing interpretations of well-known pieces. Called “an insightfully versatile composer,” (All About Jazz) Skonberg is deeply rooted in the New Orleans tradition, creating a style all her own with pop and world music influences.
Skonberg has recorded and toured the globe as a band leader and featured artist, performing with the likes of Bucky Pizzarelli, Wycliffe Gordon, Nicholas Payton, Vince Giordano, Howard Alden, Scott Robinson, John Pizzarelli, and Victor Goines.
