It is the world’s oldest continually operating national all-star jazz program. Hundreds of the top high school musicians from around the United States compete for a spot each year. The selected members form an elite big band for one week only, performing at official GRAMMY Week events and at premiere jazz venues. The 2018 GRAMMY Awards® are taking place in New York City, and this One Night Only event at the Iridium offers the unusual opportunity for New Yorkers to experience this singular group of musicians Live In Concert.

The 2018 GRAMMY Band is made up of the best high school jazz musicians in America, who come together for the week-long GRAMMY Jazz Tour. The Band will visit the Iridium joined by a Special Surprise Guest for a performance of big band standards and new tunes alike. This elite group of 18 represents the highest caliber of musicianship in the country, with players from 18 cities in nine states.

The GRAMMY Band is part of the GRAMMY Museum’s GRAMMY Camp—Jazz Session, a program that through its many iterations is 26 years old. Former members of the program have gone on to careers at the highest levels of the music industry as headliners, sidemen, arrangers, songwriters, producers, and more. Alumni have received many GRAMMY Award nominations and wins. In fact, four alumni of the program (Pascal and Remy LeBoeuf, Alex Han, and Jazzmeia Horn) have earned themselves GRAMMY Nominations in 2018 alone.

In addition to their public and private performances, the GRAMMY Band records an album each year. This year, the band will record at The Power Station at BerkleeNYC in Midtown Manhattan. GRAMMY Jazz 26 will catalog the group’s musical achievements and be released in Spring 2018, available at online retailers.

This program is the GRAMMY Band’s first appearance at the Iridium, and it is the perfect opportunity for jazz lovers to experience the next generation of jazz’s big names in an intimate setting. A portion of your ticket purchase will go toward the GRAMMY Museum’s education initiatives such as this one.
