ScoBar presents:  Terese Genecco & Her Little Big Band
“3rd Anniversary Party & CD Release Concert” with special guest Robert Hicks

“Packed with Rat Pack PUNCH!” ~ The Examiner NYC

“Frisky, Retro Fun!” ~ Time Out New York

The multi-award-winning, multi-talented vocalist, bandleader, and comedian Terese Genecco (pronounced “Teh-REECE Jeh-NECK-oh”) is currently the longest-running nightclub act on Broadway, appearing here as a headliner at The Iridium NYC every month – for more than 70 performances – since her opening night in March of 2009.

Genecco has appeared in major music venues, performing arts centers and jazz festivals around the world since her cabaret debut in 2003 when she became San Francisco’s “Entertainer of the Year.”  After garnering a Back Stage Bistro Award, 2 MAC Awards, and being named one of the Top Ten Best Cabaret shows of the year by Time Out New York Magazine in 2006 and again in 2007, Genecco wrapped up a year-long run at San Francisco’s premiere nightclub, The Rrazz Room, in 2008 and relocated to New York City where she has continued to earn critical acclaim, another Bistro Award, and a rabid fan following in her open-ended run of shows at The Iridium with her stellar 8-piece “little big band.”

“There were no ‘mice’ in the Ratpack – it was strictly an all-boy’s club.  But if Frank, Dean and Sammy ever returned from the Great Casino in the Sky, the first youngish female singer that I’d recommend to join their clan is this high-voltage entertainer.  Ms. Genecco is deeply rooted in the early 1960s, the colorful last gasp of the era of swingin’ lovers, and, as such, draws equally from Louis Prima and Sammy Davis on one hand and Ray Charles and Elvis on the other.  She and her three horns and five rhythm put on an unstoppable juggernaut of a set at the Iridium, with one hard-hitting swinger after another, pausing only for what she describes as a mandatory ‘two-ballad maximum.’  The calendar may say Dec.28, but Ms. Genecco makes every show seem like New Year’s Eve.”  ~ Will Friedwald; The Wall Street Journal, December 2010

Robert Hicks will be Terese’s special guest vocalist on Tuesday, March 20th, 2012.

Robert was born and raised in Portland, Oregon.  At the age of five, he taught himself to play the piano by ear from listening to the 78-rpm records of Tommy Dorsey and Artie Shaw he had discovered in his grandmother’s attic.  He began singing jazz at the age of eight and began classical and jazz piano study with Gene Confer at age nine.  At sixteen he began performing professionally around Portland.

For seven years, Robert was a staple on the Hollywood music scene where his association with the legendary composer/arranger Pete Rugolo began, culminating in the first ever retrospective of Rugolo’s body of work including a concert at the Newmark Theater/Portland Center for the Performing Arts and an inspired CD, “Textures In Hi-Fi,” which he recorded in Hollywood with Rugolo’s spectacular 19-piece all-star orchestra.  Featured on the disc are such legendary musicians as Pete and Conte Candoli, Buddy Childers, and Jack “Mr. Bongo” Costanzo (the octogenarian percussionist who also plays with Terese Genecco in her San Francisco and Hollywood bands.)

Robert Hicks has a luscious voice, taking his inspiration from Chet Baker and Mel Torme while his piano chops and arranging skills elevate his performances from merely lovely to exquisite.  He’s a natural fit with Genecco’s swingin’ “little big band!”  You won’t want to miss this month’s show, 3 year anniversary celebration, and CD release party!

Next Month: Special Guest – Johnny Rodgers (April 17)
