“Naylor has a sumptuous voice and a knack for scratchiness.” Village Voice
This San Francisco-based vocalist and songwriter returns to the Iridium following sold-out tours in Italy, Germany and the United States and is in production of her tenth recording. Naylor’s albums have made the “top-ten” lists of USA Today, Jazziz and The Washington Post and she is recognized for her wide vocal range and ability to mix and “smash” multiple genres and generations of music. She is equally at ease singing the music of Johnny Mercer and Jimi Hendrix as she is her own original music, with several compositions used in national advertising.
At her Iridium concert, Naylor will debut new music from the upcoming recording and revisit requested favorites from earlier releases like her bossa nova version of REM’s “Losing My Religion,” self-penned “Celebrate Early and Often” and hard-driving “Black Coffee,” where she sings the melody and lyrics of the Webster / Burke standard over the groove of Zeppelin’s “Moby Dick.” “Naylor has the chops and sensibility to pull it off,” writes New York Magazine. New material includes thoughtful arrangements of Mercer / Legrand’s “Once Upon A Summertime,” Gabriel’s “Don’t Give Up,” Nash / Weill’s “Speak Low,” Naylor / Khu’s “I’m Your Only One” and The Temptation’s “Papa Was A Rolling Stone” sung over Harris / McCann’s “Cold Duck Time.”
Naylor has released nine recordings on the Ruby Star Records / eOne label and her 2013 recording, “Dead Diva Society,” pays tribute to the singers and songwriters who have inspired her. Songs made famous by Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan sit comfortably next to compositions by Freddie Mercury, Luther Vandross and Amy Winehouse. Naylor’s recordings are available throughout the United States, Europe and Asia and she tours regularly in these regions at esteemed venues and festivals, including Ronnie Scott’s London, all Blue Note clubs worldwide, Birdland New York, San Francisco Jazz Center Auditorium, Monterey Jazz Festival, Jazz Aspen Snowmass and more.
