BIOGRAPHY
Raul Midón is a Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter, and guitarist celebrated for his genre-defying sound that blends soul, jazz, pop, and Latin influences. Born in Embudo, New Mexico, on March 14, 1966, Midón lost his sight as an infant due to complications from an incubator but developed extraordinary musical talents that would define his career. After studying jazz at the University of Miami, he became a sought-after session vocalist, working with renowned artists like Shakira, Christina Aguilera, and Herbie Hancock. In 2005, Midón launched his solo career with State of Mind, an album that showcased his virtuosic guitar skills, soulful voice, and knack for heartfelt storytelling.
Midón’s innovative style often features his signature “mouth trumpet” technique, where he mimics the sound of a trumpet with remarkable precision. Over the years, he has released a series of critically acclaimed albums, including A World Within a World and If You Really Want, which earned him a Grammy nomination. His music, often compared to that of Stevie Wonder and José Feliciano, explores themes of love, resilience, and optimism. A true musical innovator, Midón continues to inspire audiences worldwide with his performances, blending technical mastery with emotional depth.
